Even during the summer months, visiting a British seaside resort could still mean going equipped with a windbreaker, an anorak, an umbrella, and a warm blanket. And if the worst-case scenario happens, it’s best you know about alternative amusements which are covered and protect you from the elements. One popular old-school entertainment feature is the great British pier, which dates back to Victorian times. At its peak, the British coastline had almost 100 piers, but as of today, there is a tiny fraction due to the power of the sea.

Southampton-based Best Price Car Sales has selected the best piers to visit in Britain, but not just as bad weather back up but because these piers are great for the whole family to visit in all types of weather.

Blackpool Central Pier
We listed probably the country’s best known pier, Blackpool Central Pier. Built 1867 and opened to the public in 1868. Since then, it’s become world famous for open air dancing and is home to its 108-foot big wheel and great array of fairground attractions. It is still regarded as one of the most popular piers on the British coastline for the whole family.

Brighton Palace Pier
The famous Grade II listed Brighton Palace Pier, opened in 1899. It’s another great historic feature which connects to the name of this famous British town. During the summer months, Brighton pier is a massive tourist attraction, but mainly due to it’s fairground rides, bars, restaurants and deckchairs to enjoy the sea view.

Weston-Super-Mare Grand Pier
Not as old as many of its counterparts, Weston-Super-Mare was built in 1904, then destroyed by fire in 1930. It was eventually rebuilt and reopened, to then have another fire in 2008, but once again, due to its popularity with the British public, it was opened again in 2010. The pier has now secured the reputation of providing bucket-loads of thrilling rides, fresh sea air, fish and chips, and retro (also new) arcade machines for the whole family.

Cromer Pier
Also known as the Theatrical Pier because it houses a 500 seater theatre, and has been known to hold some very high end productions, with nightly packed houses. Situated on the Norfolk coast, this pier offers breathtaking views and a great afternoon / evening entertainment for the whole family. (due to Covid-19, it will be advisable to check opening times)

Llandudno Pier
Famous for being the longest pier in Wales, and the fifth longest in England. Stretching out to sea at 2,295 feet, Llandudno Pier, which is Grade II listed, offers spectacular views, excellent food stalls, concessions and a relaxing stroll to take in the fresh sea breeze. The pier was built in 1876, and was voted “Pier Of The Year 2005” by members of the National Piers Society.
